Noelani Pearl Hunt
Noelani has been active in many communities for over 20 years. She and the Love of her Life Albert Hernandez Jr live with their blended family, her daughter Jennalynn and her bonus children Cinthya, Josephine and Albert III in San Jose, CA.
She was the first Filipina America elected to the Santa Clara Unified School District Board of Education (Alviso, Santa Clara, and Sunnyvale). She ended her time as the first Filipino American School Board President for the Santa Clara Unified School District.
Her work includes both public service and professional efforts with San Jose Jazz, Cinequest, Next Vista for Learning. She spent several years as CEO of a global non-profit Hand in Hand Parenting, which supports parents when parenting is hard building resilient families. Currently, she is focusing her work with the Animal Rights and recuse non-profit Town Cats as Executive Director and providing her non-profit Management expertise to the Non-Profit Leadership Lab.
During her tenure on the board they:
Increase graduation rates steadily from 81.4% to 88.7%, starting with a focus on all students reading at grade level by third grade, and providing necessary supports through twelfth grade to successful graduation.
Recruit and support a more diverse student population to participate and succeed in advanced placement (AP) courses, earning national recognition for our AP equity work and funded AP, PSAT, and SAT college placement exam fees for the last three years so that all students can participate without being limited by the expense.
Continue to grow career technical education pathways and see students and programs recognized with state and national awards.
Expand science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) focus across the entire district, including opening a STEAM elementary school (Central Park Elementary), two computer science immersion schools (Montague and Sutter elementary schools), and transforming our district science fair into a STEAM Expo.
Increase supports for our most vulnerable students - including English learners and those with special needs - and expand academic counseling, social-emotional, music, arts, and library supports for all students.
Passed Measure BB 2018, providing the funding for critically needed facility improvements to better serve our students, including the construction of five new schools to meet our growth.
She is currently serving on the board of Building Peaceful Families as their Vice-Chair. In 2015 Noelani was awarded one of the Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World, Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 40 under 40 award, and was inducted into the East Side Union School District Hall of Fame.
Noelani has been a long-time advocate for education, previously serving on the boards of organizations such as the Amigos de Guadalupe, Santa Clara Schools Foundation, and founding Member of Wilcox Dance Team Booster. She is also a passionate advocate for social justice, and the environment, having served in executive roles on the boards of DAWN (Democratic Activists for Women Now), the Asian Pacific American Democratic Club, and BAYMEC (a local LGBT rights organization).
Noelani strives for excellence in everything she does, fueled by a belief in the fundamental right of equity for all. She understands the positive impact that a well-rounded education can have on a community, and she strives every day to ensure that local students receive the education they need and deserve.
Noelani earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Santa Clara University.
